Mobile Veterinary Ultrasound
Dr. Josh Portner, DACVECC
For Veterinarians
I started my mobile ultrasound service in January 2018 to improve the diagnostic ability of practitioners who do not have high resolution ultrasound equipment in their practice, do not have the time for a full ultrasonographic evaluation, do not possess the training to feel comfortable with ultrasound, or would like a case evaluated through the eyes of an Emergency and Critical Care Specialist.
Currently, appointments can be arranged within a few days, often on the same day. Same day studies are subject to an urgency fee.
About Me
After graduating from Tufts University of Veterinary Medicine in 2004, Dr. Josh completed a small animal rotating internship at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in 2005. Dr. Josh then completed his residency at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in 2008 and became a board-certified specialist in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine in 2009.
Diagnostic ultrasound has been part of Dr. Josh’s clinical role throughout his career, and these previous experiences all led him to be able to help patients the most as a mobile ultrasound practitioner and consultant for difficult to manage cases.
Dr. Josh previously served as a director on the NJVMA Executive board, also serving on the NJVMA task force for continuing education, the NJVMA legislative committee, and headed the opioid epidemic task force.
He has enjoyed his responsibilities in a variety of roles over the course of his career:
- Helping to launch the residency program at OSVS
- Becoming the first Emergency and Critical Care specialist in a busy and growing emergency and specialty practice in central New Jersey
- Moving on to an Emergency Director position in northern New Jersey,
- Progressing to Medical Director charged with the startup and growth of the first satellite practice for a large emergency, specialty and referral hospital.
